- What’s the difference between bagpipes and small pipes?
Bagpipes, also known as the great highland bagpipe, are what you would ordinarily associate with bagpipe music. This is the instrument you are most likely to see in a pipe band or being played by a solo piper. It is a suitable instrument for outdoors or a large indoor venue. The folkpipe is a smaller version of the bagpipe that is designed to play inside. It is a softer instrument for a smaller space.
